Sweet as Pie (Easy!) Apple Pie Filling
As we welcome apple season and look forward to our Sweet as Pie Bench Pillow, I thought it would be fun to share this apple pie filling recipe with you! It's easy to make and perfect for crisps, crumbles, turnovers, fritters, and (of course!) pie.

Sweet as Pie Apple Pie Filling
Ingredients
- 10 large Granny Smith apples
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 4 Tbsp. corn starch
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Dash nutmeg
- Dash kosher salt
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
Directions
- Peel, core, and finely slice apples.
- Toss apple slices with lemon juice.
- In a large saucepan, combine brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cornstarch and stir to blend over medium heat.
- Add apples, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir constantly while bringing mixture to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low and continue cooking (stirring frequently) for about 20 to 30 minutes or until apples are tender and mixture is thick.
- Add vanilla and stir.
- Cool for 30 to 45 minutes.
- Store in refrigerator for 2-3 days or freeze in freezer bags for up to 12 months.
