Creating a Gallery Wall with Your Kimberbell Projects

A gallery wall isn't just a mix of paintings, photographs, and other decor, it's an inviting way to tell your story and make your home a warm and welcoming place.

From Happy Place Embroidery Projects to Mini Quilts and more, Kimberbell projects are perfect for gallery walls! Here's how to use a variety of colors, textures, and themes to create your delightful display.

Put the Focal Point at Eye Level

When making a gallery wall, you'll want to put the focal point right at eye level. In other words, you don't want to look up or down to see it! It should just hit you (BOOM) without any effort.

Again, the rule of thumb is to NOT put your items too high or too low. Eye level is the key! 😊

Choose Complementary Colors

You'll also want to surround your focal point(s) with a variety of objects that offset the colors. These items  shouldn't steal the attention; rather, you'll want them to complement the main pieces and make them pop!

In the image above, we wanted the embroidered rope bowls to shine. The neutral items surrounding  them (as well as the lovely table display) pull colors from the bowls without being a distraction.

Arrange in Odd Numbers

For whatever reason, odd numbers are always more aesthetically pleasing. At Kimberbell, we often do groupings of threes or fives. (Three is probably our favorite. 😊)

In the image above, there are three pieces arranged on the wall (the Mini Quilt being the focal point), as well as a grouping of two candles + one stack of books for a table display of three.

Use a Variety of Sizes

If your pieces are all same size, they'll compete for your attention. So use a variety of sizes! You'll want to use different heights, depths, and textures.

In the image above, you'll see that the items on the wall are all different sizes that come together in one gorgeous display. Also notice the complementary colors and groupings on the table below!

Switch Out Small Elements

Another way to add interest to your gallery wall is to include elements you can switch out over the year. For example, you can add a basket or a vase, then change what's inside to match the season!

Take a look at the image above. The Mini Quilt is the focal point, but we also added a clipboard, a hanger, and a basket to the wall. When you switch the quilt to the new season, it's easy to add plants and decor to match!
